Job description
Work Details:
- Support staff: Nursing, RT, NCC attending, +/- additional APPs
- Patients per day: 10-20 patients, will not see them all but see based on acuity
- Patient population/age: Adult ICU (>18yo) with primary neurologic diagnosis
- Department description: Neuro ICU - 24 hour APP in house coverage with neurointensivist support (formal daily rounding; phone availability overnight); comprehensive adult ICU patient management (closed unit) with primary neurologic diagnoses
- EMR: EPIC
- Skills required: Conduct rounds on patients. Perform minor superficial surgical procedures. Provide critical care to patients, including mechanical ventilator management, noninvasive ventilation management, calibration and operation of hemodynamic monitoring systems, management of critical care analgesia and sedation. Perform critical care procedures on patients to include bag mask ventilation, laryngeal mask insertion.
- Familiarity with the majority of the following: Neurologic examination, Neurologic localization, Neuroimaging, Electroencephalography, Ischemic stroke revascularization, Ischemic stroke secondary prevention, Intracerebral hemorrhage, Subarachnoid hemorrhage, Traumatic brain injury, Intracranial pressure, Status epilepticus, Neuromuscular respiratory failure, Breathing and ventilation in critical care, Acid base and sodium, Fever and infection, Antithrombotics and reversal, Cardiac arrest, Detecting Brain death
- Skills preferred/Special Procedures: CVC insertion, arterial line insertion, lumbar puncture; Implement SAH, ICH, and AIS pathways. Document core stroke measures, namely last known well for all, Hunt and Hess for SAH, ICH Score for ICH, NIHSS for AIS. Manage high-morbidity Neurosurgery post-operatively, including craniotomy, craniectomy, cranioplasty, transphenoidal resection, spine decompression/stabilization, carotid/intracranial stenting, and aneurysm clipping/coiling. Detect neurocritical emergencies on CT head. Interpret CXR and ECG accurately. Complete timely, updated, and accurate notes including Medication Reconciliation, Family History, and Social History.
Requirements:
- Board Certification: Yes, Adult Geriatric or Acute Care
- Minimum experience required: 2-3 years
- Credentialing Timeframe: 60 days
- 3 night call shifts per week
- Level I trauma academic research hospital in downtown New Orleans
- Candidate must have LA license or already be in process
