Locum Physician – County Jail
Location: Galveston County Jail
Contract: 4 months assignment (may extend)
Schedule: [8:30 AM – 5:30 PM] Monday - Friday
Reports To: Medical Director or Jail Administrator

Position Summary
The Locum Physician will provide comprehensive daily medical evaluations to inmates housed at the Galveston County Jail. This includes assessing acute and chronic health conditions, reviewing health complaints, and prescribing medication as medically appropriate. The physician plays a critical role in ensuring the safety, wellbeing, and continuity of care within a correctional environment.

Key Responsibilities
- Conduct daily evaluations of inmates presenting medical concerns
- Assess and diagnose acute and chronic conditions
- Order, prescribe, and monitor appropriate medications and treatments
- Coordinate care with on-site medical staff, nursing team, and support personnel
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation in compliance with facility policies
- Respond to emergent medical situations within scope of practice
- Follow all HIPAA, correctional health standards, and facility protocols
- Collaborate with behavioral health staff if dual diagnoses are present

Qualifications
- MD or DO with active, unrestricted license to practice in Texas
- Board Certification or eligibility in Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, or related specialty
- Prior experience in correctional, emergency, or urgent care settings preferred
- Valid DEA license for prescription authority
